Manuel de Amat (1704–1782) was a distinguished Spanish military officer and colonial administrator. Born in Barcelona, he served in the Spanish army and held important positions within the empire. Amat is best remembered as the Viceroy of Peru (1761–1776), where he strengthened defenses, promoted urban development in Lima, and commissioned notable architectural works. His rule reflected both military discipline and a vision for modernizing the colonies, leaving a lasting mark on Spanish colonial history.
