This finely crafted bronze door handle from 18th-century Nepal depicts Matsya, the first incarnation of Lord Vishnu, represented with a divine upper body and a fish tail below. The deity is shown with multiple arms holding various symbolic attributes, embodying Vishnu’s role as the preserver and protector. Adorned with a detailed crown and ornate jewelry, the figure reflects the rich iconographic and artistic traditions of Nepalese metalwork. Originally functional, this handle also served a devotional purpose, offering protection and divine presence at the threshold of sacred or royal spaces.
