This portrait depicts Alfred Tennyson (1809–1892), one of the most celebrated English poets of the Victorian era and Poet Laureate from 1850 until his death. Known for works such as In Memoriam A.H.H., Idylls of the King, and The Charge of the Light Brigade, Tennyson’s poetry captured the spirit of his age. The image is based on a photograph taken in 1867 by Julia Margaret Cameron, renowned for her pioneering work in portrait photography, here rendered in a finely detailed print.
