This 19th-century lithograph depicts a richly ornamented fountain located in the cloister near the refectory of the Certosa di Firenze (Carthusian Monastery near Florence). Rendered with precise architectural detail, the fountain features classical motifs such as floral scrollwork, heraldic shields, and mythical creature supports. A Latin inscription, “LAVAMI MUNDI” (“Wash me, O world”), decorates the basin, referencing spiritual cleansing. The semi-circular pediment is adorned with Christian symbols, including a cross and laurel wreath. This work is a striking example of Renaissance revival design, merging sacred art with functional architecture.
