This bronze prabha (aura or halo) frame, originally created to enshrine an image of Jina Parshvanatha, exemplifies the exquisite craftsmanship of Western India, particularly Gujarat. The openwork arch is richly decorated with detailed floral and geometric motifs, flanked by stylized celestial figures and protective iconography. The central cavity would have housed the image of Parshvanatha, the 23rd Tirthankara in Jainism, identifiable by the canopy of serpents often seen above him. The intricate pierced design not only allows light to pass through, creating a divine radiance around the image, but also symbolizes spiritual enlightenment. The solid base, adorned with sculpted elements such as lions or mythical beasts, reinforces the piece’s sacred purpose and artistic significance. This artifact is a testament to the deep spiritual traditions and refined bronze-casting skills that flourished in Jain communities of the region.
