This exquisite bronze sculpture from Karnataka represents Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu and hero of the Ramayana. Created during the Vijayanagara period, the figure stands gracefully on a lotus pedestal, embodying divine strength and serenity. Rama is depicted in a frontal stance with finely modeled limbs and a serene expression. His characteristic attributes include a high conical crown (kirita-mukuta), elaborate earrings, and a richly ornamented dhoti with intricate detailing, typical of South Indian bronze art. His right hand is shown in the abhaya mudra, symbolizing protection and reassurance, while the left hand, now partially damaged, would have originally held a bow, referencing his role as a warrior prince. The refined detailing of the ornamentation and balanced posture exemplify the devotional and artistic excellence of the Vijayanagara bronze tradition. This icon would have been used in ritual worship, processions, and temple festivals, where it served as a living embodiment of Rama’s divine presence.
