This chromolithograph depicts the marble screen surrounding the cenotaphs inside the Taj Mahal, located in Agra, India. The intricately designed lattice work (jali) shown here is a fine example of Mughal craftsmanship, showcasing floral motifs and geometric patterns carved in white marble with inlays of semi-precious stones—a technique known as pietra dura. The central arch and delicate floral border represent the ornate enclosure around the tomb of Mumtaz Mahal, built by Emperor Shah Jahan. This artwork was lithographed by Vincent Brooks of London and is part of a 19th-century series illustrating notable sites during travel of India. The title and annotation also appear in Gujarati script, indicating regional engagement with this heritage.
