This engraved portrait depicts Henri de La Tour d’Auvergne, Vicomte de Turenne (1611–1675), famously known as Mareschal (Marshal) de Turenne. One of France’s greatest military commanders, Turenne served under Louis XIII and Louis XIV and played a pivotal role during the Thirty Years’ War and the Franco-Spanish War. Shown in formal armor and lace collar, the portrait reflects his status and martial prowess. The engraving is based on an original work by Philippe de Champaigne and engraved by E. Scriven, combining refined detail and solemn dignity fitting of a military hero of the 17th century.
