This evocative engraving titled “The Last Voyage of Henry Hudson” depicts the legendary English explorer abandoned during his final Arctic expedition. Set amidst icy waters and towering glaciers, the scene shows Hudson seated in a small open boat, draped in furs, with a solemn, steadfast gaze. A young boy, often interpreted as his son, clutches his hand while another crewman sits pensively, clutching a fur wrap for warmth. The stark isolation conveys the dramatic moment of mutiny and abandonment in Hudson Bay (1611). The painting was created by The Hon. J. Collier and engraved by W. Greatbach, published by J. S. Virtue & Co. Limited, London.
