(7TH FEB 1612 – 19TH MARCH 1683) Was a English dramatist and theatre manager. He was a witty, dissolute figure at the court of King Charles II of England. Published 1810. This evocative portrait features Thomas Killigrew, a noted 17th-century dramatist and theatre manager, closely associated with the English Restoration stage. Depicted in a contemplative pose, Killigrew wears voluminous robes and a soft cap, his gaze directed outward with theatrical flair. The engraving’s fine hatchwork captures the rich folds of fabric and the sitter’s expressive features, reflecting Scriven’s deft translation of Cooper’s painted original. Inscribed below with “THOMAS KILLIGREW,” and credited to “Cooper P.” and “E. Scriven S.,” the print embodies 19th-century fascination with cultural patrons and literary figures of the Stuart court.
